Regenerative Hair and
Scalp Treatment
Hair and Scalp Treatment
Stronger hair begins with understanding why it is changing
Hair loss is rarely just about hair.
A widening part, a receding hairline or a noticeable increase in shedding can gradually affect confidence and become something you think about every day. You may find yourself checking photographs, avoiding certain hairstyles or wondering whether the thinning will continue.
At DDHTC, we understand that concern.
Our approach begins with a medical assessment of your hair and scalp. Before recommending a procedure, we look at the pattern of hair loss, how long it has been present and whether an underlying medical, hormonal, nutritional or inflammatory condition may be contributing.
Regenerative scalp treatments, including platelet-based and exosome-related technologies, may be considered for selected patients. They are not automatically suitable for everyone.
The first step is understanding what is happening and what can realistically be done.
What Is Regenerative Hair Treatment?
Regenerative hair treatment is a broad term used for procedures intended to support the environment around existing hair follicles.
Depending on the treatment selected, this may involve biological mediators naturally found in the patient’s own blood or other carefully assessed regenerative technologies.
Patients may also hear the term exosome hair treatment. Exosomes are microscopic extracellular vesicles involved in communication between cells. They can carry proteins, lipids and other biological material. Researchers are investigating their possible role in hair-follicle activity and the hair-growth environment.
Although early research is encouraging, exosome treatment for hair loss remains an evolving field. Current studies involve relatively small patient groups and differing products and protocols, so effectiveness and long-term safety have not yet been firmly established.
At DDHTC, these treatments are discussed carefully and without exaggerated promises.
Hair Concerns
What Hair Concerns Can Be Assessed?
A consultation may be helpful if you are experiencing:
Regenerative treatment may be considered when functioning follicles remain in the thinning area.
It cannot create new follicles in an area where the follicles have been permanently lost.
-
a receding hairline
-
thinning through the crown
-
widening of the central part
-
reduced overall hair density
-
progressive male-pattern hair loss
-
progressive female-pattern hair loss
-
increased or unexplained shedding
-
miniaturisation of existing hair
-
loss of density around previously transplanted hair
-
concern about whether a hair transplant is required
Why Diagnosis Comes Before Treatment
Hair loss is not a single condition.
Two patients may appear to have similar thinning but have completely different underlying causes. These may include:
- genetic pattern hair loss
- telogen effluvium
- iron or nutritional deficiency
- thyroid dysfunction
- hormonal change
- recent illness or surgery
- emotional or physical stress
- medication-related shedding
- inflammatory scalp conditions
- autoimmune alopecia
- scarring alopecia
Offering a procedure before identifying the likely diagnosis may delay more appropriate treatment.
During your consultation, Dr Jindal may assess:
- when the hair loss began
- whether it developed suddenly or gradually
- the distribution and severity of thinning
- follicular miniaturisation
- hair-shaft quality
- family history
- medications and medical conditions
- previous hair-loss treatments
- whether further investigation or blood tests are appropriate
You will then receive a clear explanation of the available options.
Who May Benefit From Regenerative Scalp Treatment?
Treatment may be considered for selected adults with:
- early or moderate pattern hair loss
- functioning but miniaturising follicles
- declining hair density
- ongoing shedding following medical assessment
- existing hair that requires long-term preservation
- a planned or previous hair transplant
- realistic expectations about gradual improvement
Suitability depends on the diagnosis, stage of hair loss, scalp condition, general health and treatment goals.
Some patients will be better suited to medication, observation, correction of an underlying deficiency or hair transplantation.
What Results Can Be Expected?
The aim is to support existing follicles rather than create an artificial or immediate change.
Depending on the diagnosis and individual response, some patients may notice:
- less noticeable shedding
- improved hair-shaft quality
- thicker-looking existing hair
- improvement in overall density
- a healthier scalp environment
- greater stability of ongoing hair loss
Changes, when they occur, are gradual.
Some patients experience a meaningful improvement. Others notice a subtle change, and some may not respond.
No responsible clinic can guarantee hair regrowth.
What Regenerative Treatment Cannot Do
Regenerative scalp treatment cannot:
- manufacture new hair follicles
- restore an unlimited amount of lost hair
- reliably reverse advanced baldness
- correct significant hairline recession where follicles are absent
- reverse established scarring alopecia
- permanently stop genetic hair loss
- replace a hair transplant in every patient
Understanding these limitations protects patients from unrealistic expectations and unnecessary treatment.
What Happens During Treatment?
The exact process depends on the selected treatment and method of administration.
Your appointment may include:
- examination of the scalp
- clinical photography where appropriate
- identification of the treatment areas
- cleansing and preparation of the scalp
- local anaesthetic where required
- preparation of the selected regenerative treatment
- careful administration to the planned areas
- written aftercare instructions
Treatment may be delivered by injection, microneedling or another clinically appropriate method.
Before proceeding, your doctor will explain what is being used, why it has been recommended and what the treatment can realistically achieve.
How Many Sessions Will I Need?
There is no single protocol suitable for every patient.
The number and spacing of sessions may depend on:
- the diagnosis
- the degree of thinning
- the area being treated
- the treatment method
- the condition of the remaining follicles
- whether other hair-loss treatments are being used
- your response to the initial treatment
A treatment course should only be recommended after assessment.
Clinical photography may be used to monitor change over time.
When Will I See a Difference?
Hair grows in cycles, so results cannot be assessed immediately.
Some patients may first notice a reduction in shedding or an improvement in the feel and quality of the hair. Visible changes in density generally take longer.
Meaningful assessment usually requires consistent photography and sufficient follow-up time.
A lack of immediate improvement does not necessarily mean treatment has failed. However, not every patient will respond.
Regenerative Treatment and Hair Transplantation
Regenerative scalp treatment and hair transplantation serve different purposes.
A hair transplant moves healthy follicles from a donor area to an area where hair has been permanently lost.
Regenerative treatment does not move follicles. Its potential role is to support existing follicles that remain within the scalp.
For selected patients, it may be discussed:
- before hair transplantation
- during a longer-term hair-restoration plan
- after transplantation
- to support existing non-transplanted hair
- when surgery is not yet appropriate
- alongside evidence-based medical hair-loss treatment
Your doctor will explain whether regenerative treatment, medication, hair transplantation or a combined plan is most appropriate.

Important Information
This page provides general information and does not replace individual medical advice.
Regenerative and exosome-related hair treatments have an evolving evidence base and may not be suitable for every patient. Results vary, and no particular result can be guaranteed.
Any invasive or skin-penetrating procedure carries risks. These may include discomfort, bruising, bleeding, swelling, infection, inflammation, scarring, an unsatisfactory result or no meaningful improvement.
Frequently Asked Questions
What are exosomes?
Exosomes are very small extracellular vesicles involved in communication between cells. They may carry proteins, lipids and other biological material.
Their potential use in hair restoration is being studied, but treatments and products are not all the same.
Is exosome treatment a stem-cell transplant?
No.
Exosomes are not living stem cells, and the treatment does not transplant stem cells or create new hair follicles.
Is regenerative treatment the same as PRP? Not necessarily.
PRP is prepared from a patient’s own blood and contains platelets and associated biological mediators. Other regenerative treatments may use different processing methods or products.
The exact treatment should always be explained before consent.
Can treatment restore a completely bald area?
Generally, no.
Where follicles are no longer present, regenerative treatment cannot create new follicles. Hair transplantation may be a more appropriate option.
Can women have regenerative hair treatment?
Yes, selected women may be suitable, but the cause of the hair loss should be assessed first.
Female hair loss may be associated with genetics, hormones, iron deficiency, thyroid disease, medication, illness or stress.
Will I still need medication?
Possibly.
Regenerative treatment does not necessarily replace established hair-loss medication. A combined approach may provide a more appropriate long-term plan for some patients.
Is there downtime?
Temporary redness, tenderness, swelling, pinpoint bleeding or scalp sensitivity may occur.
Your doctor will explain the expected recovery and provide individual aftercare instructions.
How much does treatment cost?
The cost depends on the treatment selected, the area being treated and the number of sessions recommended.
You will receive a written quotation before deciding whether to proceed.
Do I need a referral?
A referral is generally not required to arrange a hair-loss assessment at OJ Clinics.
